Chung Young-Soon
Abstract
This study is aimed at measuring the operational self sufficiency to enhance the sustainability of the Korea microcredit organizations and identifying the influential factors that affect the operational self sufficiency. In order to access the reality more accurately, this study examined by dividing the institution into the general welfare service institutions and MISO institution whose program approach and support environment were different. According to the survey conducted with all microcredit organizations in Korea, the level of operational self sufficiency is found to be comparatively low with 48.4% of mean value and 30.1% of median value. Furthermore, the operational self sufficiency of the general welfare service institutions turned out to be lower than that of MISO institutions. This analysis indicated that from organizational, personnel, and financial point of view, the factors affecting the operational self sufficiency are clearly different for the general welfare service institutions and MISO institutions. Therefore, this study proposes that differential schemes be offered at a strategic level according to institution type.
